I am a die-hard Google lover. I love EVERYTHING GOOGLE! I have studied the company in great detail, but one of my favorite “creative awesomeness” that Google creates are the Google Doodles. Many may not realize this, but the Google Doodle idea was alive before they even incorporated. Founders, Larry, and Sergey created a simple Doodle to revise the Google logo for a festival in 1998.
Dennis Hwang, a webmaster intern at Google in 2000 created the next, more creative Doodle to celebrate Bastille Day. Little did Google realize that Googlers in America, as well as the international audience, were hooked. So, Google did what it does best; they ran with it and today, Google Dooles are more popular than ever. Originally designed around holidays, Google Doodles quickly evolved into finding further creative reasons to make Google Doodles.
My favorite doodles are the GIFS. They speak to me more than others mostly because I have yet to master how to create awesome GIFS. A few of my favorites are:
“Doodlers” as they are called, have designed over 2000 different doodles from celebrating traditional holidays to other outlets that involve innovation. Go figure… Do you have an idea? Do you want to see your idea on Google’s homepage? Email proposals@google.com and you just may be one of the lucky whose creativity perks Google’s Doodlers interest.
Google sponsors an annual contest for students in grades K-12. Each year there is a different theme since 2008. Students, teachers, parents or other school personnel can enter artwork for the student. Google only accepts one doodle per student, but there is no limit to the entry amounts of each school. This contest is only open to United States students, but students can use any creative material they desire to visualize their hopeful win. Google has panels of guest judges each year, and the public is invited to vote online once the guest judges have narrowed the entries. This year’s winner is:
Another reason I love Google is that of their philanthropy efforts. Anyone who reads my blog regularly knows how important volunteering and paying it forward is to me. Google offers a lucrative prize to the winners of each year’s Doodles. The National Winner receives a $30,000 college scholarship, a $50,000 Google for Education grant for their school, a trip to the Google Headquarters so they can nominate a teacher to attend the tour with them. Google also gives the winner a Chromebook, an Android tablet, and a T-shirt with their winning Google Doodle on it.

The four National Finalists will have their doodles in the Google gallery (but not on the front of Google’s page like the Winner). They each receive a $5,000 scholarship, a trip to Google Headquarters, an Android tablet and a t-shirt with their doodle on it.
